Sir Henry Morton Stanley GCB (born John Rowlands; 28 January 1841 – 10 May 1904) was a Welsh-American journalist, explorer, soldier, colonial administrator, author and politician who was famous for his exploration of central Africa and his search for missionary and explorer David Livingstone, whom he later claimed to have greeted with the now-famous line: "Dr Livingstone, I presume?". Henry Stanley stannade framför den gamle, tog av sig hatten och sa: ”Doktor Livingstone, förmodar jag?” Så hade det äntligen inträffat, det som skulle bli världshistoriens mest omtalade möte, den 10 november 1871 i den lilla byn Ujiji vid Tanganyikasjön mitt i det som Stanley skulle kalla ”det mörkaste Afrika”.
